Boehringer Ingelheim has announced that it will publish anonymised data from clinical trials dating back to the start of 1998 on the accessible platform clinicalstudydatarequest.com. The pledge was made by Boehringer’s chairman Dr Andreas Barner at the company’s annual meeting yesterday.

The database was established in 2013 by AllTrials member GSK as part of their commitment to clinical trial transparency. In January 2014 Boehringer, Novartis, Roche, Sanofi and ViiV Healthcare joined the online portal. The platform currently contains data from 50 trials but the partners are planning to include 500 by the end of 2014.

Boehringer called the move toward transparency “irreversible” at its meeting in 2013.
