European consumer org to support EMA in court cases

20th September 2013

The European consumer organisation BEUC, which represents 41 consumer groups across the EU, has been given permission to support the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in the court cases the agency is currently fighting. The EMA was sued in February 2013 by pharmaceutical companies AbbVie and InterMune for releasing clinical trial data on some of their products.

Monique Goyens, BEUC Director General said: “This is great news for consumers. Our participation in the Court case will show that the public at large is interested in test results, be they good or bad. The EMA chose to stand for transparency, and this is where we stand too”
