The National Institute of Mental Health in the USA has announced new efforts to promote efficiency, transparency, and reporting in future clinical trials. New funding announcements will require that recipients of future grants register their trials on ClinicalTrials.gov and commit to a data sharing plan.

They highlight the issue in an accompanying report that “as of March 2012, less than half of NIMH trials ending in 2008 and 2009 had reported results, which is consistent for the National Institutes of Health generally.” To ensure better compliance going forward, no new clinical trials will be permitted under previously awarded NIMH grants.
