Arthritis Research UK: Arthritis Research UK is the leading authority on arthritis in the UK, conducting scientific and medical research into all types of arthritis and related musculoskeletal conditions. It is the UK’s fourth largest medical research charity and the only charity solely committed to funding high quality research into the cause, treatment and cure of arthritis. We have a strategic commitment to supporting clinical research, and have established eight clinical studies groups to support our research activity in this area.

We believe in the importance of clinical trials registration and of research publication. As members of the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC), Arthritis Research UK expects sponsors of the clinical research we fund to utilise the ‘Model Agreement for Non-Commercial Research in the Health Service’, which requires sponsors to register the study with an appropriate protocol registration scheme. We support the registration of trials on the International Standard Randomised Controlled Trials Number (ISRCTN) register, through the conditions we place on the host institutions of our clinical trials. To ensure the results of the research we fund are widely available, we require research papers to be made freely available within 6 months of publication.
